Expansion vessel removal
Hi all. I need to remove my external expansion vessel because the bracket holding it has become loose and I need to replace the fixings. My question is, do I need to drain the whole system. The vessel is in the cylinder cupboard on the middle floor of a town house (central heating vessel not unvented cylinder). Will I get away with draining top floor rads which will obviously reduce pressure or does it have to be drain right down below the level of the vessel? Thanks in advance.

Hi Telly,
Generally we would get the same vessel.
Ready and depressurise the system at the drain down valve and lock of the radiators above on their rad valves.
Using a wet vacuum and dust sheet, loosen the 3/4 Union to the expansion vessel.
Be careful as the vessel can be heavy.
Remove old vessel and replace with new.
Doing it this way will help when getting the system refilled and reduce air locks.
